It’s easy to whip up a blog post, throw in some keywords, and call it a day. However, this isn’t going to create the level of content you seek, so what will?
There are a few components needed to make engaging content. This includes the title, tone, and the emotional investment your reader has in the content. For something to be engaging, it has to suck your reader in past the headline because you don’t want them to keep scrolling.

Titles matter. Period. Are you going to read something with a title that doesn’t appeal to you? Probably not. If you are seeking out content on a specific subject, the headline should include that. Seems easy enough, right?
Sometimes it doesn’t take much. For instance, ask yourself what brought you to this article? You’re probably here because you want to write engaging content, so of course, you clicked on our title. Simple enough.
The title should pull the reader in and get them invested in what you have to offer. Here are a few tips for writing an engaging headline:
Always use keywords. If you’re working with multiple keywords, try using one or two in the title, and then use them sprinkled throughout your content.
First and foremost, don’t skimp on your headline. It’s much more important than you may think. For a title to be engaging, it needs to pack a punch in just a few words. It should also come as no surprise that adding the keyword to your headline will grab your reader’s attention. Your audience is looking for content on a certain subject, so your headline tells the reader what they will get out of the content.
Think about your headline and take your time. You may also find yourself thinking of a better one as you write. Writing a title sometimes takes just as much time as writing your blog post. We suggest brainstorming out at least ten titles before you settle on one.
Know Your Audience
We all want our content to reach the masses, and to be shared by everyone in group chats across the galaxy. However, not all content is for everyone. You want to ensure that the content is reaching the proper people. For example, if you are writing about “why cats use the litter box,” your main demographic isn’t going to be dog owners. Therefore you obviously want to write engaging content to appeal to someone with a cat. We know you already knew that. We’re just making sure we cover the basics.
Researching your audience will inevitably lead you to more ideas for your content. It will never be unhelpful to check out your intended audience. Putting in statistical information from your demographic will help you solidify that you’re telling them the cold hard truth. That will create trust in you. Everybody loves a data chart or graph to help them figure it out.
Do Your Research
When you’re writing content, you should be the authority on it to really drive the topic home. Why do your readers want to read YOUR content specifically? If you want to know how to write engaging content, it boils down to your research.
With that being said, do not overwhelm your readers with difficult to read information. You have done the work in researching your topic to become an expert, and now it’s your job to make the content palatable for the everyday reader.
Take your research and break it down into sections with subheadings. One large block of heavy text, such as medical information, will be unbearable to your readers. They should be able to search your topic, find the expert on the topic, learn what they need to from your article, and also have a way to contact you for more information.
As we mentioned above, huge blocks of text are a no go for the everyday reader. Engaging content should be easy to scan and get through quickly while absorbing the needed information. People like to find information without having to dig through a ton of reviews. Engaging content makes finding what they need readily available for them to flip through on their phone.
Using bullet points and subheadings is also a great way to break up your content into smaller sections. This makes it much easier to read and is less monotonous than the huge block of text. Using a conversational tone and addressing your readers directly also brings them in and starts engaging them with the content.
After you research your audience, finding a tone that works for the demographic is key. For something like our litter box article mentioned earlier, the tone should be friendly and informative. You don’t want to scare someone off who’s just looking for information with a heavy-handed tone. A more serious topic should have a more serious tone. It’s all about reading that virtual room.
Call to Action
When your readers finish reading your article, they should be asking themselves, “what’s next?” If you read through what you’ve written and can’t see what’s next, then you need to add in a call to action.

A call to action is some part of your web page instructing the reader to do something. It can be a link, an image, a banner, or whatever they can click on to keep going. Creating a call to action encourages readers to complete the next step, whether it be buying or downloading something or a link to learn more about the topic.
If you are selling something, the action will most likely be something like “shop now” with a button to your products or catalog. This can also be done in the form of links to products throughout the article, directing the reader right where you want them to go.
If your article is about something you’re an expert on and you’re writing helpful information about a topic (such as this article), it should lead the reader to a way to “learn more.” Link them to your website or contact form, or other resources to help them continue investigating the subject.
Limit the amount of call to action in your content. Giving the reader too many options can overwhelm them, which is the opposite of what you want. Set yourself up with 1 or 2 to help write engaging content.
